Capilano Heights Restaurant is the home for many North Vancouver old families. We first went there with our parents, then children, now grandchildren and many friends. We love the view of the green BC garden and the friendly staff. The food is healthy and very tasty, they have a very large selection. The area is one of the best in North Vancouver, many times we walk around the Cleveland Dam. We continue to have dinner there with our family and friends from many countries.
We went for dinner on the 22nd of Sept 2011 and that is the last time I will ever step that restaurant nor will I recommend any one to step into that place. The place is dirty with filthy carpets that looked never been washed for ages. Health inspectors should do a proper evaluation of the hygiene of this restaurant for God alone knows what is going on in that kitchen. The service was really poor and the grumpy waitress lady was trying to rush order till I told her to be patient. Food was greasy and the crockery was so old and had chipped edges. It was embarrassing moment since I had taken guests for dinner and would have walked out if not for them. This is by far the worst place I have ever been to eat. They are certainly spoiling the image of Beautiful North Vancouver and certainly do not deserve the location they are in. Gratian - Sept 23, 2011
The food was terrible and the service was even worse. the older lady working there was so rude. the food was gross, i eat alot of chinese food, and this is by far the worst place i have ever gone to. the decor of this place was terrible, just as another reviewer said. it did look like a 1960's funeral home... maybe they should get a new cook and reno the place, cause when i walked in my first thoughts were ''oh my this isnt going to be good... sure enough i was right. its quite obvious that all the positive reviews below were written by management, all the reviews sound the same. there clearly all written by the same person. also there were flies everywhere in the resteraunt. the food was barely edible. i will never ever be going to this place again and i dont recomend anyone else to go here either. wou'll just be wasting your money. youd be better off hitting the drive through of some fast food place than going to this dump.
my dog wouldnt even eat the food they serve here. it was absolutly DISGUSTING. the rce was much, the chow mein was flavourless and i dont even know what to say about the rest.... im speechless. it was just sick. i DO NOT recomend this place to anyone. I wouldnt even tell someone i hate to eat here. Also, the server was extremely rude.
Obviously, this most unfortunate person is having a go at our restaurant. As you can see, they have posted multiple scornful messages. This should not be allowed as it is clearly mischief and I just wish for this person more of a real life and that they would find more rewarding things to do with their time. Management
The was a group of us that were told about this resteraunt so we thought we would try it out becasue we all enjoy chinese food but there are very few good chinese food plaes to be found. We walked in, and it was quite bright, but wasnt what we were expecting... the decor was old and out of date, really just wasnt nice, they were so out of date you couldnt even pay with a debit card! cash only. unbelievable. And the lady that was serving us was not friendly, she was completly rude. My friends were not impressed. The prices were average, but the quality of the food was terrible. we will not be back, and that explains why to resteraunt was less than quarter full during dinner service.
this is the WORST chinese food i have ever had. Me and my dad went for lunch here becasue our usual chinese food resteruant wasnt open, it was our first time going here and the fact that all 200 and something seats were empty should of been our first sign that the food was terrible. The place was empty and it still took the waiter about 20 minutes to take our order, but we orded simple stuff, chicken chow mein, chicken fried rice, and sweet and sour boneless pork. when we got it given to us, it looked disgusting. i took a bite of everything and i couldnt even eat it. it was sick. i dont even know how this place is still in buisness. The whole decor of the place looks like something out of a funeral home in the 80s. we couldnt even eat the food, and we told the lady working and she still made us pay, when we didnt even eat any of it. i dont advise ANYONE to go to this dump. it was by far the worst dining experience of my life.
This is an unfortunate situation. The restaurant was empty because it was late in the afternoon (approximately 330) when these people arrived. Lunch was over, but dinner rush had not yet started. I'm sorry this young lady did not like the food, however there are some outright lies in this review. There was no waiter, only the lady, we always take the order right away (especially if there are no other customers!), and have the food out within 5 minutes unless it's very busy, and the food was our usual standard - which, according to all of our customers, is always excellent and has been for over 38 years. You can see by other reviews that this is true. In addition, when informed that the young lady didn't like anything, the waitress asked what could she do to rectify the situation? When told there was nothing that could make them happy - she offered to charge them only 1/2 the price in order to simply recoup our costs, because there was nothing wrong with the food. One is not allowed to just go in a restaurant to see if they like it and not pay for anything - which seems to be the only thing that would satisfy this young lady. The total charged them was 11.00 plus HST which seems eminently fair as a compromise. As for the decor - they were seated in the atrium which is a lovely totally glass room that is bright and airy which, of course, she does't mention. Her comments regarding the funeral home in the 80s is really beyond the pale. All in all, I feel that the review is viciously mean-spirited and not a reasonable comment. Her father has eaten here on occasion and seems to be a satisfied customer, so perhaps it was just a bad food day for this young lady. Management
We had ants crawling all over us the whole time we were there... What does that say for the kitchen?
We are very sorry about the ants that seem to have invaded one particular corner of the atrium. We have our pest control people working on it full time but, as the atrium is very nearly outside in the garden, it is difficult at some times of the year. The kitchen, however, is very clean and has no insects at all. Customers can check the health inspector's report at Vancouver Coastal Health's website to assure themselves that there is no problem with our kitchen. It is very unkind of this reviewer to imply otherwise with no indications other than the sorry states of their imaginations. Management
For over 38 years CC's restaurant has been consistent with excellent food and friendly staff -- it is comfort food!!
I'm sorry that the previous reviewer did not seem to have a good experience. I can only hope that this was not a normal occurrence but an anomaly which we regret and offer our sincerest apologies. Management
Something has changed at this restaurant the food is not bad, the service I don't know? the last time I was there we ordered our food and it was brought out one dish at a time and it was slow coming, we had finished, and along came the chicken fried rice about a half hour after our first dish, I mean come on, it can't take that long to serve four dishes! The place is getting a little musty also.Well I've said my bit we still go there and most of the time it's not to bad. Nothing to write home about though.
Have been a customer for 20 years or more and when we want the best of Chineese Flavours there isn't antwhere else to go. We live in Burnaby and always eat at this well known place. This is an old resturant with just the best food on the planet,,bar none,,! Weather permitting we usually take a strole to the nearby Cleveland Dam 200m from the resturant before going home. Just a great place .

This is by far and away the best Chinese food in the Lower Mainland. I went there for many years (mainly take out) when I lived in North Vancouver and since moving to New Westminster I still make the trek there for the food. It's consistently great and perfect for large gatherings as the others have said.

AMAZING FOOD AND ATMOSPHERE FOR A SEZCHAUN RESTAURANT
The comfortable chairs are a bit shabby but 'comfortable'... the gardens are a delight. But the food CANNOT be beaten.. In the 20 years we have had this as our family favorite place for special occasions the food has always been reliably outstanding.. and reasonable. There is nothing to compare to their boneless breast of duck on pea pods - and for once it does NOT have 'chinese 5-spice' flavor which turns me completely off most chinese food / duck.. The hot and sour soup is absolutely marvellous. Its always busy so make reservations.
The best Chinese restaurant in the Lowermainland. Our large family's been going there for 20 years, great facility and seating, great service, food is simply the best, prices are good too - great value. And it's the same every time - consistantly great!! This is the real deal.
Top quality Chinese food... always consistent... a rare gem. I moved out of the area and never went there for many years and when I returned it was the same great food as ever. Well worth the trip regardless of where you're coming from! I have tried very hard to find other restaurants that compare but have not come close to being successful... food from other restaurants has frequently ended up uneaten... Any leftovers from Capilano Heights disappears very quickly... there is never any waste!
There were 20 of us in the party. the seating arrangement was most unsatisfactory, and the waitress got most upset when asked to change it to fit our party. We had booked our reservation far in advance, sothey should have had our seating properly done. The change upset and delayed our dinner.
The lady in question wanted to seat 22 people at one table which is a physical impossibility. She was a guest at the dinner, not the hostess, who had no problems with our arrangements at all. In fact, the rest of this lady's party is embarrassed and appalled at this review and wishes they could make her take it back! (She is very elderly and is perhaps having some mental difficulties).
Simply the Best!
The food is fantastic, the service is excellent, and the atmosphere is wonderful. It's the perfect comfort food in a warm and inviting restaurant. I really enjoy eating here.
